What's "Machzor39"?

This blog has been created as a platform for the graduates of the Jewish Agency's Leadership Training Institute in Jerusalem who attended the 1966-1967 session of what everybody knows as "Machon".

Machon began in 1946 and a few years ago we had a big reunion.

Machon was the educational training arm of the Youth & Hechalutz Department which dealt with the Zionist Youth Movements all across the political & ideological spectrum.

The result of that reunion is now an effort by graduates of the various sessions to get together and reminisce and exchange information on what has happened in the last 40 years.

The sessions were yearly but since the Jerusalem period of study was only 6 months long and then we all went off to do "Hachshara", the agricultural period at a kibbutz or moshav, the session numbers changed very half year.

So Machzor 39 began in September 1966 and ended in August 1967 but 40 began in February (and these were always known as the "southern machzorim" as they were dominated by the South American countries and Spanish; and we were the "northern machzorim" dominated by English and French langauges).

We were some 110 youngsters from North America, England, France, North Africa, South Africa and Australia. A few pictures from that year can be found here. We hope to put up a lot more.

We have now decided to open up this platform and if anybody is peeking over our shoulders - enjoy!
